What is a Newborn Care Specialist?
A Newborn Care Specialist (also known as a "Baby Nurse") is someone who specializes in newborn care. Newborn Care Specialists assist parents in their home the first few weeks or months of baby's life with parent education, feeding/breastfeeding, basic baby care, and light baby-related housekeeping. It is important to note that a Newborn Care Specialist is not a Nanny and requires special training and education specific to the profession.
What will I learn in this training?
All our trainings are taught by Brandi Jordan, MSW, IBCLC and Hannah Halliwell, CLEC. Brandi holds a BA in Early Childhood Development, a Masters Degree in Social Work and over a decade of experience working with newborns. Additionally, she is a Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Certified Gentle Sleep Coach. Hannah brings with her a decade of experience attending women in birth and assisting new mothers in breastfeeding as a lactation educator/counselor. She is also currently pursuing a degree in Social Work. Brandi and Hannah’s background and experience make The Cradle Company's NCS training far superior to many trainings out there. In addition to learning the basics of newborn care, you will learn about child development, supporting mom through what can be a difficult postpartum period, how to support a healthy infant sleep schedule, how to offer breastfeeding support, business tools, and much much more.
What is a Hybrid Course?
There are many great “online” trainings out there, but we don’t feel comfortable sending people into the field having only watched videos. We know you have questions, and we want to answer them and help you to create a support network in this amazing field. Each NCS Course begins on Mondays and your first Q&A with your instructors will take place that following Sunday. You'll have 2 LIVE hours to discuss what you’ve learned in the previous week, and to get additional coaching from experts in the field. The following Monday you will receive your next module of coursework, and again will have time to discuss what you have learned and obtain additional training live with your instructor. Your final week will be all about professional development. We want to ensure that you are ready to market yourself and be ready to interview with prospective clients. Your final LIVE coaching session will take place that Sunday, where you will get coaching on starting your new career. Let's get started! Feel free to call or email with any additional questions.
